Our Cosiest Cottages for Autumn

11 September 2025
Holly Price

There’s nothing quite like cosying up in a charming cottage when the seasons change. The days are still mild enough to get outside and explore, while the chillier, drawn-in nights are practically an invitation to while away the evening beside the woodburner. Whether you want to escape to a coastal retreat and enjoy blustery beach walks in the briny air, or slip away to somewhere totally secluded in the remote countryside, our Kent holiday cottages are just what the doctor ordered.

Six of Our Cosiest Kent Cottages for an Autumnal Break

From inglenook fireplaces to rolltop baths and back again, these are some of our cosiest Kent cottages to book during autumn.

Rogue’s Cottage, Deal

Sleeps 4 | Pet-Friendly

A Grade II listed Georgian terrace, Rogue’s Cottage occupies a stunning spot just a stone’s throw from the shoreline in Deal. The trendy interior will leave those with a keen eye for design wanting for absolutely nothing – think tastefully mixed textiles, handsome heritage colours and oodles of original character. We’d spend a weekend here buried beneath bubbles in that copper bathtub, lazing before a roaring fire and perhaps sampling some of Deal’s foodie delights if we could bear to drag ourselves away from such exquisite interiors. A heavenly hideaway, this might just be the most lovable rogue of all.

Water Farm House, Stowting

Sleeps 12 | Pet-Friendly

Water Farm House is the quintessential country pile. With the original house dating back to 1689, this rambling, romantic escape is nestled in the postcard-perfect village of Stowting, encircled by quaint country pubs and Kentish vineyards. The interiors are teeming with character – latched cottage doors bow beneath beams and original fireplace tiles glimmer from adorable alcoves; however, the place feels comfortably contemporary. Outside, a huge garden contains a covered outdoor dining area, a natural pond and the occasional passing pheasant.

Go here for: Storybook charm with soothing strolls to the Tiger Inn pub.

Bertie’s Cottage, Robertsbridge

Sleeps 4 | Pet-Friendly

In the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you’ll find the forest that inspired A. A Milne’s 100-Acre Wood, enchanting castles with their mirror-like moats and the largest stretch of open water in southeast England. In short, it’s a stunning part of the UK. It’s also home to Bertie’s Cottage. A Grade-II-Listed bolthole dating back to the 1700s, Bertie’s is a charming escape crammed with character. The smooth flagstone floors and exposed beams are a delight in any season, but they exude a special magic when autumn rolls around.

The best bit? The cottage is only a 15-minute walk from Robertsbridge station, where trains run directly to London Charing Cross in just over an hour – perfect if you’re craving an autumnal escape from the city.

Go here for: A paradise of peace, quiet and exciting interiors. And a wealth of stunning sights from your doorstep.

Cow and Cockle, Deal

Sleeps 2 | No Pets

Not only did we fall head-over-heels for the name of this seaside stay, but we also love that it is a compact, charming bolthole just for two. Cow and Cockle is a terraced cottage located in the quaint conservation area of Deal, just a hop, skip and a jump from the artisan high street with its cafes, shops, restaurants and bars. Ticking the ‘log burner’ box, this quirky little cottage in Deal is the perfect choice for a romantic autumnal getaway.

Go here for: Quality time for two beside the seaside.

Woodman’s Cottage, Canterbury

Sleeps 5 | Pet-Friendly

By name, appearance and environment, Woodman’s Cottage is very much deserving of a starring role in a classic Disney fairytale. A paradise for those who like to pull on their walking boots and admire the autumn foliage, it’s perched on the outskirts of Blean Woods – one of our favourite walking spots in Kent. It’s also great for cyclists, as the Crab and Winkle Way runs directly past.

Go here for: Cosy, storybook stays for the ultimate spooky season retreat – you can even take a Halloween-themed punting tour in nearby Canterbury.

Saltwater Cottage & Riley Cottage, Deal

Both cottages sleep up to 4 & allow 1 dog

While adding an extra cottage to our list might seem like cheating, we can get away with it because these two are practically neighbours. Both located on Deal’s pastel-perfect Middle Street, Saltwater Cottage and Riley Cottage offer slow-paced, salt-air escapes that will ease you into a calmer, comfortable state of mind. Both boltholes offer beautiful bedrooms, charming courtyard gardens and welcoming sitting rooms with log burners. If you’re a sucker for a steaming hot bubble bath after a breezy beach walk, good news – both cottages have show-stopping bathrooms with standalone tubs.

You can book each cottage independently, or make a plan to come with up to 7 friends and book both – getting the best of personal space and your favourite company.

Go here for: Cosy cottage stays just steps away from the soothing sounds and salt air of the ocean.
