History of Deal

For the history fans, Deal has a lot to offer, dating back to a mention in the Doomsday book as a village way back in 1086. However, evidence suggests its history may go back even further. Julius Caesar is said to have landed on the Deal-Walmer coast in 55 and 54 BC.

Deal was a ‘limb port’ of the Cinque Ports and has been important in the defences of south east England throughout history. With a coastline that was permanently exposed to potential attack, it was no wonder that Deal played such a crucial role.
