Sea Purse is set in St Margaret’s Bay, a peaceful coastal village nestled beneath the dramatic White Cliffs of Dover. The beach is seconds from the house, creating a wonderfully immersive seaside setting where the sound of the waves and the vastness of the English Channel are part of everyday life. This unspoilt stretch of coast feels refreshingly open, offering bracing swims, rock pooling and quiet walks along the shoreline. The village has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, with tearooms, a village shop and well-regarded pubs all close by. Coastal footpaths lead directly from the bay along the clifftops towards South Foreland Lighthouse and the White Cliffs Visitor Centre, offering some of Kent’s most striking walking routes with far-reaching sea views. Inland, the surrounding countryside provides a peaceful contrast, with gentle lanes and wildlife-rich landscapes.
For days out, the nearby towns of Deal and Kingsdown offer traditional seaside charm, independent shops and excellent places to eat, while Dover Castle provides a fascinating insight into the area’s rich history. Deal and Dover railway stations offer convenient links to London, and other local Kentish towns like Canterbury, Whitstable and Faversham, making Sea Purse an ideal base for short coastal escapes or longer stays enjoying one of Kent’s most beautiful stretches of shoreline.
