Deal

Skimming Stone sits in a brilliant spot in Deal, along Middle Street, close enough to the seafront to dip easily into seaside life, yet tucked into the fabric of the town where everything feels walkable and unhurried. The beach is only moments away, making it easy to start the day with a stroll beside the sea or an early swim before breakfast. This part of Deal feels relaxed and lived-in, with the gentle rhythm of the coast shaping daily life.

Wandering into town, you’ll quickly find yourself among Deal’s Georgian streets and thriving independent scene. The high street is lined with bakeries, butchers, delis and antiques shops, alongside excellent cafés and wine bars that invite you to linger. Seafront pubs and restaurants stretch along the promenade, perfect for long lunches or supper as the light softens over the water. Deal Pier draws you out across the sea and is always worth a visit, while Deal Castle and Walmer Castle sit nearby, quietly anchoring the town’s rich maritime past.

When you feel like venturing further, coastal paths head north towards Sandwich Bay or south to Kingsdown, offering wide skies, open views and easy cycling routes. Canterbury is also just a short drive away with it's Cathedral, it's a must visit for a day out of town. Deal railway station provides direct services to London in just over an hour and a half, making Skimming Stone a wonderful choice for both short seaside escapes and longer stays on the Kent coast.
